...How did they get up there?
« on: January 27, 2013, 09:48:14 pm »

So I started a new fortress on an embark with flat land, no mountain to dig into. I proceeded with digging into the ground to start laying out my fortress. I had rock blocks made to make a small wall around one half of my entrance.

A little while passes and I get reports that two dwarves have died of dehydration. I had plenty of booze stockpiled so I was very confused as to why they died of dehydration, chalked it up to maybe they had been working very hard and didn't get to drink. I had coffins constructed and placed and they were marked for burial, but one of them came back as a ghost, so I had slabs engraved and placed for them.

A small while later, I had been sifting through Z levels, went up one too high at the surface. There were two dead dwarves along with a few (alive) kittens and some turkeys on top of the wall. There are no stairs or ramps giving access to the top of the wall and there never has been.

How the heck did they get up there?

had this happen to me too.
also had some a dwarf on a ledge through my constructed wall of my defense tower. this was after it was built and walled off not the wrong side of the wall problem i also had (and fixed). had to deconstruct the wall or build stairs to get my mason out so i could get back to building my floor.

I've had dwarves dodge up walls before, usually when flying creatures where involved.

1. When a unit moves into a tile occupied by another unit, the two units can sometimes swap positions (instead of one unit lying down so they can both be in the tile at the same time).
2. Flying units can move up/down diagonally.

I'll let you do the math.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
