Hypothetically, using the new drop damage mechanics could you collapse a full hive on enemies and have each bee do damage?

Interesting. So I did bee keeping right when I did it myself. I just never waited long enough.

I'm not sure, if only because I believe the hive tag makes the game not actually spawn each individual bee, but keeps track of populations via abstraction. Plus, if you're going to cave something in on a creature, it's probably lethal to begin with--if the rock doesn't OHKO them, the dust will knock them on their ass and let you waltz over to lop their head off.

After being bored with my fort for awhile I took up beekeeping.
Producing wax and processing it all is easy enough.
But there is apparently currently a bug that makes it so you cant even make mead, or use royal jelly for that matter.
So all in all, is essentially useless. Also for some reason mead has one of the lowest values for a drink.

I still want mead though

The most likely cause of bee products not getting used are - the finished goods stockpile settings. Strange but true. Jugs of any kind are filed under 'tools', which means dwarfs will merrily stuff them in finished goods bins. This includes jugs filled with royal jelly or honey.

If you disallow tools on finished goods piles, jugs containing honey/royal jelly/rock nut oil will go to the food stockpiles where they belong and can be used from there without additional trouble. Well, apart from them being liquid foods and cooks being reluctant to use those.

Making mead and cooking with royal jelly is quite doable if you set things up right. And at the very least you can learn a bit about workflow/stockpile/kitchen management...

I regularly make mead one of my main flavours of booze, produce royal jelly roasts and sell a few handfuls of wax crafts every year, using 20-40 hives and 2-4 beekeepers. It's pretty easy once you got the hang of it.
