Cotton Candy Syndrome

Does anyone else find themselves with what I think of as "Cotton Candy Syndrome?" You ever dig right down to the caverns, and spot adamantine right away - and then fail to develop your other metalsmithing industries because you really, really want to just dive for that cotton candy?

Well, I find myself doing the same thing as I play DF. I have not played DF in at least 9 months because every update seems better then the last, and I keep thinking 'I'll play it after the NEXT update' - and I never play it.

Does anyone else have Cotton Candy Syndrome?

Don't know if I'm just really unlucky, but I've never found any adamantine. If I did I would get my smiths up to legendary before I thought about touching it.

Haven't played for 9 months? Get your ass in gear  :D

I don't usually do anything with candy until quite late in the game. And by then my fortress is usually a smoking pile of rubble. Once I get my military underway, I'll arm+armour them in ☼steel☼. My smiting industry is usually big enough by this stage to keep only the masterwork gear and melt down the rest for more masterwork gear.

[EDIT:Yes, a smiting industry.]

More often I buy lots of cassiterite and malachite at embark to make bronze. I don't feel anything more is necessary to start with. It's a good way to train up my smiths too.

Why buy malachite good sir when you can get an offer of -3 embark points when lugging along cheaper tetrahedrite nuggets? But wait! there's more: a slim chance of getting a silver bar with your acclaimed 4 copper bars!

Maybe its the color that comes with the ore, green is one of a modern human's favorite color.

I can't quote for squat, but this is very true. Credit to PTTG?? for this insightful comment.
