Link several mecanism to a single device
« on: April 28, 2013, 03:45:33 am »

Hi,

I would know if it possible to link several mechanism to a single device. For example, is it possible to link a lever and a pressure plate to a single bridge such as the bridge raise when the lever or the pressure plate is triggered ?

Thank you.

Simple answer is yes.
Detailed answer I will leave for more experienced players.

As Miriage stated, yes, it is possible.

The details come in that each trigger (such as a lever or pressure plate) sends either an "ON" or and "OFF" command depending on what it is toggling to. These commands then cause the triggered buildings to attempt to switch to that state, and will do nothing if the building is already in that state. (This means that if your pressure plate triggers and then you pull the lever while it is triggered nothing will happen because it is simply sending another "ON" command. If you pulled it a second time it would send the "OFF" command at which point your buildings would attempt to switch to their OFF state regardless of whether or not the pressure plate was still triggered). The one exception to this is gear assemblies, which will toggle upon ever command received, regardless of if it is an ON or an OFF (so if your assembly starts ON and you trigger the pressure plate ON it will switch to it's OFF state, and then if you send another command by pulling a lever it will switch ON again).

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

In other words, depending on what you intend on doing, I would look into a device known as a "Power to signal converter." Due to the fact that a lever or a pressure plate will send a specific signal (OPEN or CLOSE) depending on what state it's currently in, as explained above, you cannot rely on linking them directly. If you've got exactly one device that you want to trigger, I would recommend linking both the lever and pressure plate to an external gear assembly, isolated from other machinery so that it can't be interfered with. The gear assembly should be linked to both a power supply (a single waterwheel should be enough) and the following setup, from the Wiki:

Quote

When power is sent to the gear, the roller sends the cart around in a loop, passing over the pressure plate repeatedly to maintain on on signal. When power is cut the cart returns to the starting position and disengages the pressure plate. The roller in this example pushes the cart from E->W. Pay close attention to the track layout to make sure it works properly. The 2 walls at the top are all that's needed to keep it from derailing.

or set the lever to be pulled twice when you want to reset whatever the pressure plate did. A bit harder the other way around though
