Tried on my system.
1.8 Ghz
1 GB of RAM

Medium galaxy with 400 stars and 9 AI races and the game IS playable.
Altho i wouldn't say it's smooth.
Imo if you have a dual core 1.6 it should work like noones buisness.

What sort of graphics card does it need? Because there's a huge range on those.

You are definitely stuck with the smaller maps if you have lower specs.  This game can be process intensive, even on the smaller maps when everyone starts having lots of colonies and ships.  Save times are also much longer as there are more things.

To recap: More processing power is always good. Graphical power is not high in demand.

Posting to watch. Is this still going?

And I wonder how will you use your intelligence-types. To me they seemed to be nothing more than a very good way to lose rep really fast, and degrade relations with everyone.

But given the fact that late game will generally degenerate into a free-for-all bloodfest with large-scale bombardments, rebellions and the occasional planet blowing up, that might not have mattered much.

Eh, agents are there to be used and you can send them onto safer missions until they train up or RNG kills em.  My normal way to lose rep really fast is when my AI starts hating the fracking Guardians enough to open fire on their mining stations automatically.  Without war.

Some games, I've tried really hard to use spies to blow up those mining stations in my territory, but most of the time, it ends up with +3 of my agents getting captured in the same offending base.  That is an inevitability for me.  Maybe I should just let my AI declare war on them or something...
