How to change views between layers?
« on: January 07, 2008, 10:22:00 am »

Really getting frustrated.. only used to the old game where there are no layers below and above.. how do I switch views to see the layer beneath or above? How do you see what's under your staircase otherwise?

You can use > or < to go down or up. Alternatively, Ctrl+NumPad5 and Shift+NumPad5 also work, if you're used to using the numpad.

If you run into trouble with them you can always assign new keys from the esc menu.

The only persons who should have real problems with this is those playing on laptops and having their keyboards setup differently than a default normal US keyboard.

I myself found my > and < to be located at shift-. and shift-,. Normaly, in Windows, I need to hold CTRL-ALT-. and CTRL-ALT-, to get them, but DF uses a defaut DOS US layout.

If you can't find the keys, just try every one and you'll eventually find the right key or combinaison. That's how we used to find out all the keys used in DOS games back in the days when there was no manuals available...

I set mine to 0/Ins and ./Del on the keypad, the two keys under the number/arrows.   The keypad-5 thing sounds good, too -- if I'd known about it before I redefined my keys I'd probably be using it now.

Also check out the new 'h'otkey interface.  It's great - no more endless scrolling about.
