Random Fire Destroys Fort, in other news...
« on: December 12, 2012, 12:07:49 pm »

First time I have ever started and less than a year in a fire broke out. What proceeded to happen was a chain fire that destroyed my fledgling empire like it were nothing more than lint exposed to an open fire. It was humorous to say the least watching all my dwarves run for there lives after having their fat melted off and slowly bleeding to death. Shortly after the fire broke out an marauding party showed it's face. They proceeded to try and chase the dwarves while at the same time getting melted by the extreme forest fire.

Lesson learned, always dig a moat around fledgling fort to protect it from random fires.

Because Only Midgets with pick axes can stop forest fires!

What I do in savanna places is build a single floor tile string around the fortress. The fire can't burn on the floor tiles, so the fire is stopped. This doesn't always work, though.
