Can't Plant: No Seeds
« on: December 05, 2012, 08:15:08 pm »

Is there any way to make seeds stored just by themselves in a stockpile? When they are in bags, if someone takes the bag to plant, someone else can't plant because some other dwarf has the bag of seeds.

It's annoying.

You store seeds one at a time, see how quick you get annoyed at the size of your stockpile. . .

Cancelled plantings isn't so bad, since the farmer will start again as soon as the bag is replaced.  Its the bags of thread that causes cloth jobs cancelling that really annoys me.  The first time I saw a dwarf pick up a bag to collect bolts I was delighted.  Now, not so much.

The accumulation of seeds seems more of an issue with the reason I wish to remove them from bags. They are not planting seeds even though there is always space for them because out of the 4 planters, only 1 can plant at a time and they all do other tasks in the meantime and forget to come back for a while when the bag isn't in use.

A better overall solution to this and Thudde's problem, and all others like it, would be to simply make the guys who use the items TAKE OWNERSHIP of the item, so they ALWAYS have it. Each planter would then get his own bag of seeds and not use whatever random bag is lying around, refilling their bag with seeds when it becomes empty. Just like how a miner doesn't put his pick away when he's not digging.
