Epsilon Eridani - A suggestion game set in the far future.
« on: December 06, 2012, 12:54:44 am »

In the year 5057, the solar system and it's closest neighbor, Alpha Centauri are grossly overpopulated. The next habitable planets are found in the system of Epsilon Eridani, so humanity has once again struck out to to conquer the stars. Interstellar travel is possible, but only at 10% of the speed of light. It takes nearly a hundred years for a ship from Earth to reach Epsilon Eridani.

In the first wave of colonization, nearly a billion people left the solar system, in a flotilla with an unfathomable number of ships. The strain on the solar system's resources was such that all further colonization was immediately outlawed, and stayed as such for almost a thousand years.

In 4950, Alpha Centauri's most habitable planet Rhea was struck by a comet, completely destroying it. With this , emphasis was put on continuing to colonize the outer reaches. Most of the refugees from Rhea were immediately put into suspended animation and sent to Epsilon Eridani....

Our story begins here...

You're in a stainless steel, coffin like structure. On small window is immediately in front of your face, but you can't see anything out of it. The only thing you can see is a small screen just at your chest level.

Initializing wake up routine...

Human 184 life signs nominal. Administering stimulants.

Hello Human 184, spacecraft temperature is 24 degrees C. Currently running diagnostics...

Muscle stimulants and nanoregenta administered.
Capsule will open shortly...

As the door to your capsule swings open and your eyes start adjusting to the harsh light, you hear a tinny, computerized voice over the intercom.
"184.. emerged from stasis. Total duration : One hundred seventeen years, 40 days. "

As you stumble out, a man in a white coat walks over to you and stops you with a hand to chest. He has extremely wrinkled pale white skin, no hair, and the circles around his eyes suggest he may have not slept for a long time.
"One eighty four, congratulations. You're in the first one thousand awake. That makes you... well you're alive. "

He takes your pulse, and unhooks some tubes from your back, which lets out a frost that engulfs the area for a short time. You can barely see his face as he continues speaking.
"You're in better shape than most. There's a computer in the next room, walk over to it, and look at some documents while I'm helping some of the others. I need to tell you these things - you were at Rhea before it got ripped to pieces. You were one of 100,000 that escaped, and one of 8,435 that are on this particular ship.

You have been in stasis for a hundred and seventeen years. Nobody you ever knew is alive, unless they are on this ship. I'm sorry. Now go to the computer."

He takes his hand and guides you over to a computer.

There are several menu options, which you can access by touching them.

Jozef 'Wheels' Karmen
33
Cab Driver/Hustler/Pilot

When your parents caught on to the fact that you were hanging with the wrong crowd, they sent you away to military flight school. You quickly learned to drive almost anything with a proper control panel, but the military ethics and virtues your folks hoped for were lost on you.

Returning to your home city you quickly fell back in with your friends and turned to crime. You were willing to try and do anything for a quick buck, but you would gravitate to getaway driver or smuggler type deals. Between jobs and stints in jail you would make ends meet by driving a cab. No matter how you got your money the vast majority of it would be spent on vices.

You were planning to have a 15 year old magical girl kill Witches by drinking them under the table!? It's original, at least.
Morpheus, a magic girls game

As you touch the computer, your bio appears on the screen. You're Jozef Karman, a 33 year old cab driver. Or at least, that's how old your body is.
There are many transcripts here - criminal records, flight school grades, and lists of residences. You scroll through them, one by one. At around age 30, you lost any official record of residence. What have you been doing the last three years ? You remember vaguely about some synth drugs and some brain stimulants, but the details are really hazy.
The final record is "Jozef Karman, vagrant.  Transfer scheduled from Wateo Neurologic Hospital, Produs, Rhea to Mercury. Debt to society requires a hundred years in the mines of Mercury."

You shake your head. Rhea must have been evacuated, and you accidentally thrown on this ship. You've escaped a life of hard labor - but for what? To go to a frontier hellhole?

You shut down the monitor with a quick swipe of your index finger. That's enough information for now.. you're a little bit hungry. A computerized voice speaks over the ship's main intercom in a very loud voice.

"FOUR HOURS UNTIL GROUP A DEPARTS . REPORT TO YOUR DESIGNATED SHUTTLE BAY AT FIFTEEN MINUTES BEFORE SCHEDULE DEPARTURE. WARDENS IN ALL SECTORS, ENSURE YOUR SECURITY TEAM REACTIVATION SEQUENCE HAS BEGUN."

There's a man in a brand new looking jumpsuit walking around, passing small tablet computers to people that are walking out of the cryo bay. Before you can say anything, he shuffles over to your location and hands you a tablet. "Real quick, you need to look at this. You're in the first group to hit the planet - the planet is terraformed, you'll be able to breathe, but there isn't exactly any cities. It's... well.. it's more like a junkyard. " Before you can ask any questions, he walks off and finds the next person awakening from cryo sleep.

There's a somewhat large group of people sitting at a long cafeteria table in the mess hall, actively engaged in a debate.
A man with a long black beard sits in the corner here, taking apart something.

First off, how does a comet destroy a planet?

Second off, listen in on debate.
