« on: December 03, 2012, 11:09:20 pm »

Ok i was doing my rounds in my current fortress, when i got to the hospital i notice a civilian dwarf, curious as to why she was in their i check her status screen and apprently she had a bruised and broken brain. Is their any chance that the poor girl will recover? I thought brain damage like that, was death, but she still kicking,.

P,S, can anyone tell me how to post screen shots?, i want to post her status screen but i have no idea how.  :-[

It is fully possible for people to have bruises on their brains and still live, it's simply a form of brain damage that in the real world would leave people impaired but in dwarf fortress allows them to still function (since brain damage isn't simulated). It won't ever heal IIRC though, so you might want to consider simply arranging an "accident" for her.

As for screen shots, the simple way is to upload the picture to a sharing site like http://imgur.com and then link to the picture here through the use of ['img]['/img] tokens (without the ' obviously).

I think brain damaged dwarves are completely incapacitated for the rest of their lives. Not sure though, I haven't ever seen it.

ahh well the healing isn't a problem, she just got up and went about her business like she was perfectly ok, a broken brain is just a flesh wound i guess

and thanks for the screen shot help, i can be a complete noob sometimes.

"outer brain" is not a vanilla bodypart. In vanilla DF, the brain only has one component, and it's just called "brain."

The fact she's still alive probably has to do with the fact that your game is modded in such a way that damage to the "outer brain" is negligible.

That being said, I have witnessed at least one instance where severe brain damage did not result in the death of my adventurer. It involved a minecart accident...

I only ever had dwarves with "dented" and much rarer "bruised" brain to live, never with more severe damage

With a last name like that, it's obvious what you must use her for.

i should really start checking my dwarves likes and name more often, i didn't even relize her last name until you brought it up
or her color preference, or that she likes drinking blob acid, and likes elven retreats,

Then let her go to an elven retreat one day while living up to her name! :) The elves will be happy to see her.

Since when is a functional brain required to keep a dwarf running?

I'm more surprised the iridium didn't further induce brain damage. Toxic heavy metals anyone?
