Hmm.  As always I would enjoy a sophisticated farming game but the focus of this one seems to be solely on the vehicles.  I see the vehicles as a means to an end, rather than the really interesting central aspect of agriculture.  Although they are truly remarkable machines nowadays.

SimFarm pretty much scratched that simulation itch for me, but since it's just about managing a conventional farm there's really not much to do, not much to worry about that the right chemicals or expensive facilities can't fix.

Also judging by the imagery of the happy pretty livestock portrayed in the hype video, there's no way that this game is going to provide a realistic portrayal of industrialized livestock farming to match the gratuitous tractor porn we've seen already.  This approach is either meant to encourage delusion on the behalf of the target customer base or is made for kids.  Probably both.

How does these yearly farm sim games... compare to SIMFARM anyways?

Quote
As you progress in your career and complete different missions, you'll control more than a hundred farming vehicles and machines faithfully recreated from the biggest names in the industry: Case IH, Deutz-Fahr, Lamborghini, Same, Horsch and newcomer Grimme
.... John Deere, MasseyFergusan and Kubota are not in that list... ?   Just saying... those are the three brands I mostly know of, thanks to looking for parts for em....

Meh, I heard this game was pretty much tractor porn...  not my cup oh tea anyways...

Has anyone ever watched that one Top Gear episode where the guys go over to a farm to race giant tractors? That was quite amusing. I think one of the challenges was drag racing the tractors. I think one of them even managed to powerslide one of their tractors.

I thought I had taken enough licks for starting this thread until I read this article on RPS which states that it was number two in the UK PC retail charts last week. http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/05/farming-simulator-2013-is-your-new-god/#more-130688

I guess driving tractors around is the new good news.

Driving tractors? My fondest memory of any farming game has to be the crop duster in Sim Farm... namely learning how to fly it without having the instruction manual. Where my planes at?

First of all, I have played and enjoyed plenty of games that lack PEW PEW, so I don't fall into the "All games that don't involve guns are bad" category.

In my mind all games fall between accurate simulation and arcade. Sports games are fun on either side, I enjoy the old Blitz games and the Madden games almost equally. Flight games are more fun, imo, a little on the simulation side (you don't pull up to survive a stall! GAWD).

Anyways, the first thought a simulation FARMING game brings up thoughts of lots and lots of waiting. Also accurately modeling or working tractors doesn't appeal to me at all. I do not understand the joy in driving a tractor or in understanding the differences between two different models.

If this was billed as Business Simulator: Farming edition I would be more interested.

So I stumbled upon that on some website...

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

tl;dr : blabla international success millions mods downloaded.

And, I got some issue with it. This sounds weird, like a random gen review/ad thing, made of parts taken randomly in a hundred real video game press comments.

But they made a mistake: in one of those unhappy and absurdly fun random word association us Df players are accustomed and addicted to, they ended up with the name "Farming Simulator 2013" .

Guys. That can't be real, right ?

So now, who are they ?

Am I just stark raving mad and living in a imaginary world, or at least browsing an imaginary internet ?
Is the internet a big joke, all made up by sinister world-ruling, truth-hiding corporations ?
Are we in the matrix ?

I want to play a Farming Simulator 1933 where there are several origins, like Dust Bowl Oklahoma or a collectivized farm in the Ukraine. Why do they not do this?

You are standing in a dry field. The corn is dusty and flat against the ground.
You are hungry. Your family is hungry.

>inventory

Grubby clothes

>go west

You are in California.

>look for work

There is no work here.

You have died of hunger.
