Fortress Idea Thread
« on: November 25, 2012, 11:47:59 am »

I have noticed quite a few 'retirement home' forts. How about an actual retirement home, as a succession fort. Older dwarves pursue hobbies in luxury. Just try to keep every senior citizen of your fort protected from noble mandates, tantrum spirals and invaders.

Possible details:
Good Area for sunberries
Noble retirement
Screw-pump gym for residents
Swimming pool
Hot tub(warm, not lethal)
FB zoo
Catching invaders and stripping them of their armor for the veterans to hold "reenactments".
Young people made into security guards, nurses, doctors, janitors and gardeners.
State of the art medical facility, including psych ward.
Somewhere tropical, possibly an island.

Possible Goals:
Become the retirement home of the king/queen.
Defeat HFS with a band of old men
"Reenact" a huge battle with armed goblins, were-beasts, forgotten beasts and war gorillas.
Vampirism for eternal retirement

Seems like an interesting idea, but I do have a question regarding the retirement fort for dwarven citizens:  How old would you say a dwarf would be before being considered part of the seniority?

Also, maybe we'll have some Greek theme for the fort as an idea, not to mention waterfalls, statue gardens, memorial halls, and all the other happy stuff.

We need a place to discuss and present these kinds of ideas for peer-review. I think I will just rename this thread.

Another idea: dwarven corporation
All job titles, etc. are execu-speak
The fort specializes in a single industry until year 2
Every overseer must open another division of the company.
In the beginning happiness and preservation of life are more important than profit.
As the company grows, profit and luxury for executives is all that matters.
HFS is opened for profit, whether it will kill the fort or not.

My first thought for retirement is legendary in a job. And everyone must have at least one experience-giving job :D

Too bad that just legendary social skill makes them flash already, it does complicates checking them up.

Another idea: Lawful good fortress.
Sheriff/captian of guard is the key position.
Since reporting crime is the high-priority job that overcomes even milirtary order, it should be considered as a confession to priest.
Every criminal sinner should get his punishment penance immediately, thus a proper prison monastery is required.
Nobles (who issue mandates) are the prophets of Order's Will and their demands should be filled immediately.
Also, for the sake of idea, a baron should be chosen randomly.

This I dig quite a lot. Urist McCorporateLeader will rule all!
We are also probably going to need a stable catsplosion generator to produce us all the food and Urist McHeadChef to make us some fine meals!

Shouldn't there also be a sort of corporate office building in the works as well in the making? It gets taller the more members there are in the succession.

A Corporate HQ(skyscraper with every noble/executive office in it) sounds good. Also, there should be some form of hall for honoring past CEOs.

Yet another idea:
Dwarven Center for Disease Research.
A fortress in a mostly good or neutral biome, but bordering on 1 or 2 evil biomes. It would focus on the capturing of husks and the undead, as well as experimenting with forgotten beast syndromes.
