Anyways, the premise of the game is that you're a scientist exiled to an island and branded a traitor by your country.  You're infected with a plague that will eventually kill you.  Some of your colleagues arrived a while before you did and have a research center set up.  Your goal is to traverse the island and collect local fauna to research and eventually synthesize a cure for the plague.  The problem is, in your plague ridden state, you have terrible coordination, perception, and endurance.  It's hard to stop yourself if you end up in a full sprint, and you may find yourself tumbling down a hill dropping your items and aggravating your fever.  You also lack the ability to swim for any decent period of time and as such should avoid it as much as possible.  You'll need to find freshwater sources to combat your dehydration.  Mapping requires you to "sight" nearby landmarks that you know the location of and triangulate your position.  You can also sight unknown landmarks and use two different vantage points to triangulate its location permanently too.  Otherwise, you have no marker on your map and will need to go by memory or triangulating whenever you get lost.(And it is quite easy to do so)

Oh and there's some sort of horned jungle cat attempting to kill and eat you.  And he is VERY persistant once he notices you.

Graphically, this is one of the best light/sky/water visuals I've seen in a game

I've already beaten it so I'll forewarn you that there are some performance issues.  The beta patch currently available on Steam seems to really help though.  There's a backstory to the game, and if you don't read the journal entries(or find enough of them to piece it together yourself) you probably won't understand the ending.

There comes a time when you must take off the soft, furry slippers of a boy and put on the shoes of a man.
Unless of course they don't fit properly and your feet blister up like bubble wrap.
Oh ho ho, but don't try to return the shoes, because they won't take them back once you've worn them.
Especially if that fat pig Tony is at the desk.

I don't get how you saw it as a cat. It's definitely a cow. Demon cow.

This looks fascinating.  I only lack the computer power to play anything with pleasant graphics...

Well, having had a quick look at this page's source, Seamas' avatar is hosted on PlanetVideo. There is no other mention of that address anywhere else in this page.
