Awesome Miner
« on: November 22, 2012, 02:55:40 pm »

So the FB Lari came, it was an Enormous Scaly BristleWorm with small moss green scales and stretched skin wings, beware it's Deadly Dust. I got everyone into my burrows but one miner was still in the caverns with Lari. Lari went over to my miner and didn't attack for a second, just waited about 10 squares away from her. I figured she was going to die so I just made into her own squad, gave the copper pick she was using as a weapon, and sent her after the FB. She then proceeded to just walked up to it, stab her pick through it's wing, stabbed it in the eye and then lodged her pick in it's brain. She then proceeded to leave the pick in the body and walked off without a scratch on her.

She will forever be written into the legends of The Great Fortress, Kunivom (CatFarm in the common tongue)

What exactly did you expect from a monster named Larry? ::)

Nah... miners are just awesome like that sometimes. A pick is basically the weapon for one-hit kills and miners tend to be legendary at wielding it after digging for a few months. It seems strange, but think about it this way: A pick is just a very pointy bit of metal on a stick, traveling with great velocity. If it's designed to get through massive stone, it'll go through flesh, bones and especially brains just as fine.

Bristleworm...

Anyone who has looked into saltwater aquariums know the god-sent or nightmare that these things can be, with some species reaching 8 feet in length. Those 8 footers make their nests by BREAKING rocks apart and gluing them back together.

I forever hate bristle worms.

And about its name.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.

Miners are uniformly cursed with one of the deadliest weapons in the game and pretty much the highest skill with using them that any dwarf will have with any weapon.
It happens.
