Stockpiles, barrels, harvesting
« on: November 14, 2012, 11:50:40 am »

Hi, I'm very new to this game, so appreciate the help.

I have had an issue with harvesting. My farmers will plant the seeds, but once they grow into plump helmuts, they will not harvest them. I have empty barrels. I have a stockpile that accepts all plants. But rather, my dwarves go to the farm to eat the plump helmut, and those that are not eaten just rot. My farmers stay idle.

Any thoughts on why this might be happening?

Thanks!

Collecting grown items from a farm is done by any dwarf with the Hauling labour.

If there is empty space in the stockpile and the stockpile is set to accept food it should work. If you've customised the storage settings of your stockpile, double check that "Plump Helmets" is turned on (Note: Plump Helmet Spawn is the seed).

Check your orders by pressing o, and check the f for food hauling

It sounds like you accidentally turned off food hauling, dwarves won't haul any foods.

And your farmers did harvested them, since dwarves won't eat unharvested plants, however they didn't moved it to stockpile, possibly because of above issue. Also check to see if food hauling is enabled on someone, but that shouldn't be the primary issue.

They might be being eaten before they get moved - early on, you may not be producing enough.

Try (d)esignating to gather (p)lants in a big area outside to see if they'll pull and put them in your destination pile - that'll tell you if your pile is good.
