My Questions Thread
« on: November 12, 2012, 06:27:44 pm »

Hi all,

Been lurking a while and just made an account.  I'm on my third attempt at learning dwarf fortress.  Heavy user of the wiki, just having trouble wrapping my head around some things.

I had a Dwarf go Beserk.  I probably should have locked them down, eh, live and learn.  Anyways, beserk dwarf killed another dwarf and was put down by a hunter.  I made coffins and setup a tomb for the murdered dwarf and a baby that died during the same period but wasnt killed by the berserker.  I thought maybe the beserk dwarf should get a tomb too, but I cant find her name in the list.  Is this because she went beserk and became an enemy?

I made some slabs and fooled with having them engraved and was able to make a memorial for all 3 deceased dwarves.  I can memorialize her but not entomb her?  Her skeleton is just sitting in my corpse pile.  Beserk or not, she deserved more.

Thanks!

Just set the coffin he should go into to be used for burial, that works for merchants and caravan guards too.

Just set the coffins to be usable for [b]urial, don't make them tombs.
You can't make a tomb for a deceased dwarf, only living ones.

You can, but only if the dwarf was part of your group, so not for berserks and merchants.

Is going Berserk alone enough to cast a dwarf out (like if they are locked in a room) or do they have to attack someone first?

Berserk dwarves are immediately moved to the hostile/other column of the units screen, so I assume they leave your fort's society the moment you're warned that they've gone berserk.

When the memorial slabs I made were in my stockpile I was able to look at them and get the description where it talked about the Dwarf's life and how they died.  Once they are placed I am unable to look at the description.  Am I missing something?

Press t to see the content of buildings, that way you can read the description.

On that note, is there a way to build (as in place, not engrave) a specific slab?

Hit 'x' when you are on the slab select list and it should split into a detailed list that includes the names on the slabs. Then just select the one that you want.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!
