Creating Embark Sites
« on: October 23, 2012, 08:01:20 pm »

Hi everyone. I was wondering if it was possible to create an embark site where it was previously not possible. For example is it possible that by...

1. Embarking on a tile adjacent to the ocean.
2. Building floors to cover all the ocean that shows up in fortress mode.
3. Abandon.
Conclusion: And then the previously un-embark-able ocean tile (covered by floor tiles) becomes embark-able.

Or anything similar? Perhaps through adventure mode (haven't tried that one yet)?

you can only re-claim your original fort, not re-embark on only part of it. Might be possible with DFhack though, now i'm distracted by an idea this gave me...

There are programs that let you embark anywhere, including upon towns, so you may be able to use this to build a bridge across the ocean. I'm interested in the effect on adventure mode, I may have to try this out later.

His question isn't about embarking on an unembarkable site, or reclaiming, but rather to alter terrain on one embark so that after abandoning, he can embark on the newly altered terrain, which theoretically could have rendered the unembarkable terrain embarkable.

And with that, the word embark has lost all meaning...

The problem with doing that vanilla is that your embark sites would need to overlap by at least one map tile, and you can't embark only partially over a previous fort. Might work with EA though, and I believe if you manage to span an ocean like that civilizations will be able to "path" across it. I've heard that if you can make an embark that stretches from one coast to the other it will have that effect, but I'm not sure if the same holds true for a series of embarks.
