it's quite possible that there is no "mount" command in the game yet, since i've only seen goblins show up on mounts and not get back on if one lost it's rider.

Maybe the raw mods and figuring out how to control the "war dragons" is the furthest this can go right now.
My idea would be to have various towers (or natural mesas) around the map with pastures designated at the top.  Assign dragons to a tower-pasture which would have them fly over the enemy and they (might?) stop to engage the enemy as they fly past.

Another AI work-around would be to use the military 'Station' command for a dragon+rider on a z level in the air, but that might not be supported either.

Mesas Idea is cool, like Dragon pillars haha. Ive never tried telling the military to station in the air, I have much to test when I get home today.
Dragon riders are cool and all, but the DF dragons don't fly and I doubt that dwarfs would want to leave solid ground anyway. Besides, there's a rather different creature I'd like to put my dwarf cavalry on.

Well if you read the posts the idea is to mod RAWs to let them fly, also yeah I dont think dorfs would want to leave the ground, but thats the irony in it, the only race to never have a dragon rider in the books are dorfs, so its sorta ironic :p

Haha, yeah I know. Honestly I didn't like the ending of the series, PMO. But we never actually see a dwarven rider, so maybe this could be like a continuation of the series :)

Hm.

Perhaps the dragon rider could imbue his dragon with magic powers or something? Like ice resistance or poison breath?

Sorry, haven't read the Inheritance Cycle and I don't like my friends' reviews about it.

Legend tells of a fort besieged by a dragon. When 79 brave recruits fell to its breath, the last dwarf of the fort took up arms. He sprung from his sickbed and claimed an adamant one sword before he bulrushes the dragon. A clean swipe severs the head. But the dragon claws him in the lower body and burns him alive. As he melts into a pile of booze and fat, I rename him Ronnie James Dio and change his profession to dragonslayer. He will forever be immortalized and worshipped as a dragonslayer God.

Can animals still have skill ranks, like they did in Boatmurdered? Because whatever oversized critter you're riding, whether a lizard, a spider or a falcon, it would be MUCH worse if it was Legendary.

Probably even WORSE than that, if it was possible for one to give them armor. I see an adamantine-armored legendary Giant Cave Spider with a Legendary Pikedwarf on her head that's screaming like a maniac.

..... MAKE IT HAPPEN PEOPLE. THIS IS JUST TOO COOL or, knowing me, stupid TO NOT DO.

I didn't see goblins having a mount command during arena testing. Also it was possible to change the skills of the toad I spawned, so yeah I suppose animals can have skill levels... also, something weird I noticed during testing. A goblin with all skills maxed out doesn't die in lava, even while naked. Every time it says you're caught in a pool of lava he just dodges into another pool of lava and then dodges and so on a so forth. I dont exactly know how this works...

Does DF Hack have any command to "create" dwarves or creatures during fortress play?
Also, does it have a command to make dwarfs "dissapear" without causing bad thoughts for friends and family?  (Maybe something along the lines of when fortress is abandoned, or merchants leave map.)

I read something about a mod to add actions to buildings.  If above DF Hack commands exists, add a "Mount Dragon" command to the Kennels that removes the dwarf and dragon, but adds them again with the dwarf mounted.  It would probably require locking the rider and his dragon in a room together to make sure the right person gets on.  Maybe each Dragon Rider could have a private apartment (bed+dining+barracks+whatever) attached to the kennel and lock/burrow him there.

If you can pull this off, I will surely want to download and play the mod.

Edit: If swimming mounts can lose their riders, could we have a problem with dwarves falling from their dragons during flight?

I've been actively looking into this, I have dfhack and use it ALOT, so I went and scoured through the commands list listed online.. there is no command to create or delete creatures, BUT! But, DF hack does let you change game mode types during fortress mode. So lets say you were managing your fortress and you wanted to hop onto arena mode, or adventure mode, well you can do that. BUT! And again theres always a but, you would think that in arena mode you could spawn any creature you wanted using [k][c], but when you do this the creature list is empty... if not quite sure why. Ive dug through forums for answers to this but the only thing I found was someone saying that the creature list might have no loaded properly yet due to the fact that arena mode had never been entered before. I tried this, but to no avail. If theres anyone out there with info on this, it would be greatly appreciated, think of all the!!SCIENCE!! we could accomplish with a creature spawner!

A Saturday morning cartoon show called something clever like" Spider Riders," IIRC. Took place inside the hollow Earth, IIRC.
