I fear my queen is a necromancer...
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:41:09 pm »

So very suddenly, the queen of my civ decided that my fortress would be a nice place to turn into the new Mountainhome.

I was really wtf. Then I checked the new migrants to see who came as her royal guards, and see her name.

Avuz Usthurthurdim... waait, I remember you I think. My legendary bonecarver used to churn figurines of your necromancer ascension to kingship! Or were you the vampire? I can't seem to find any of those figurines, must've traded them all away >.>

Anyway... is there any danger to me? Can I use her to safely make bacon? Any suggestion on how can I find out if she is a necromancer? Wait scratch the last one, my fortress is littered with the bodies of the last siege. Time to do some atom-smashing!

Why? Presumably the zombies would be friendly to your dwarves, since they are allied with the necromancer. Instant fortress guards!

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

I often get Queen Necromancers and King Vampires. Just erm...make sure they aren't discovered or chaos happens. Better yet, pin all crimes that haven't been linked to anyone, and i mean all of them on the suspected undead. Make sure your hammerer has a really heavy hammer. While chained up in jail the hammerer will wail on them. And..well. you can tell if the undead is undead by surviving. Course you could just isolate them and leave em to it.

Make a copy of the region file, select the copy when you go to "continue playing", abandon the fortress in the copy file, and then go to Legends Mode. Check her name to see.

Or you can get her in an unfortunate accident if you're not sure either way.

iirc, they are friendly to the necromancer, but enemies to anything else. Which means as soon as another dwarf comes close, FUN happens.

It turns out, however, that I misremembered. It was a different queen necromancer, and she got replaced. however, I'm still not sure about her normality. For all i know, she's an undercover elf.

If you're not sure, then give her some Dwarven Truth Serum. That'll sort things out real nicely.

You see, here's how I think this works:
Overseer: Welcome to the military! You need to wear socks! Dorf: Oh, I should get military socks. My socks are civilian socks. Dorf discards socks Dorf: You know, I need a whole lot of gear now. I should get socks... last. Oh, but these steel boots with the white goo on them are nice!

IIRC, *all* undead have the "Opposed to life" tag and will attack any living creature in sight, including your dwarves.

Best bet is to either arrange an unfortunate accident or be very, very careful with your refuse piles.  It might be wise to install an emergency magma-dump on her room, either way... for safety.

I like to think that on the other side of the world a human is walking on the beach, notices the water level suddenly drop twenty feet, and whispers "fucking dwarves."

Legend tells of a fort besieged by a dragon. When 79 brave recruits fell to its breath, the last dwarf of the fort took up arms. He sprung from his sickbed and claimed an adamant one sword before he bulrushes the dragon. A clean swipe severs the head. But the dragon claws him in the lower body and burns him alive. As he melts into a pile of booze and fat, I rename him Ronnie James Dio and change his profession to dragonslayer. He will forever be immortalized and worshipped as a dragonslayer God.

The way I usually find a necromancer is when my refuse pile comes to life every time they walk by.
