...and the Baron is also now left wondering how a whole lot of 'guests' have managed to turn up at his inexplicably disordered manor, all apparently having been invited to some 'do' that he never even arranged in the first place!

...I am intrigued by this idea that Dwarf Fortress may become a P. G. Wodehouse plot generator with massive cat slaughter.

Tell me more...

@Footjob, you can microwave most grains I've tried pretty easily through the microwave, even if they aren't packaged for it.

The baron's guests obviously aren't dwarves. Dwarves wouldn't consider pantslessness, vomit, and horses in the meeting hall unusual.

Fixed that for you. I can imagine cats laughing at misfortune.

The baron isn't a dwarf, but there was nothing saying the guests were surprised. Actually, they still might be if they were expecting the baron to act human and not dwarven.

Well, we were invited to consider the consequences, and I was merely saying that if the guests were dwarves (irrespective of who or what the baron is) then the consequences wouldn't amount to much. In other words, I was making a lame joke.

Crime is always a good one.  Joining groups of thieves, being rewarded by one group for killing the leader of an opposing group, working to cheat succession to give positions of authority to groups other than the legitimate heir.  On a similar note, revolution and civil unrest should always be around.  The player could work with a faction that wants to see specific change in society, and eventually either see the revolutionaries crushed or see them succeed and have the civ ethics/government change.

There could also be some focus on conflicts that emerge as a result of coming of age.  So for instance, if every member of a certain society had to go out and kill a dangerous opponent or a civ enemy to become an adult, you'd constantly have people forming groups of adventurers and trying to prove themselves, even if there was no actual need for them.  The player could join these groups or try to defend a common target of these groups.

Um, hopefully those were mundane enough...

You misspelled seance.  Are possessing Draignean?  Are you actually a ghost in the shell? You have to tell us if you are, that's the rule

* Design the coins to be minted this year (you pick one from a filterable list of symbols to stamp on each metal), you need to make a lot of quality engravings before being offered the quest.

* Carve a mural in a new fortress, or restore an old one

* A priest is having a crisis of faith and you have to either assure him or persuade him to a new faith or to have none (You could use liar / consoler / negotiator)

* A feral child has been causing a ruckus around town and the mayor wants you to adopt it and take it with you on your adventures. You can either keep the kid as an npc ally or give it to an elven retreat (or to goblins haha). It doesn't know how to speak.

* A semi-important noble wants you to learn how to make authentic warpaint from a group of nomads who are, like anyone would be, suspicious of outsiders. You have to learn their methods of making warpaint and make sure they don't lie to you as they're teaching you. Then the noble wants the authentic native warpaint drawn on him before his voyage to the frontier.

* There are legendary engravings of a battle from years ago, which occurred a few kilometers outside of the city you are in. The engravings are famous and familiar to everyone. You have to go to the site of the supposed battlefield and search for evidence of the battle and bring it to some curator or librarian or whoever gives you the quest.

* I can't stop thinking about slaves to armok, god of blood: chapter 2: dwarf fortress: histories of aggression and the domestication of the modern pig.

large towns have an arena. events range from gladiator style fights to the death, archery competitions, horse racing and various olympic style sports.

Your adventurer gets bored slaying dragons and instead decides to put his throwing skills to use in the 'goblin skull shot put'. turns out hes pretty good at, if fact hes good enough to turn professional. Pretty soon he's touring all the biggest arena in the land, a world famous sportsman earning more gold and adulation that he ever did as an adventurer....

-There's an adventurer stuck on a tree, help him down.

-You are designated to be a life-sized, 'living doll' for the combat-happy elf princess for the week. Enjoy.

For the more mundane.

-Store these in the designated stockpile.
-Channel the water.
-Chop those trees and mine some ore.
-Gather plump helmets from that farm plot.
-Smooth all the walls in the room.
-Finish 'booze curry' mandate.
-Make a mandate of your own.
-Watch this blade of grass grow at the same time watching the dye dry.
-Survive the danger room, the lever is inside to begin.

"Alright, we'll kill them, then have tea and scones."
"No scones!"
"Okay, no scones then. Hey, where'd they go?"
