Magma question

I have found "a great magma sea", but am a touch confused.  (I had expected to hit a magma pool with a cave above, or a complete-Z-level sea, but this is very sparse.  No big there.)

The confusing bit is that looking at this level shows both "Open Space" and "Magma [7/7]" in the same tiles.  Going down 5 Z or so shows "Magma Flow" and "Magma [7/7]" in the same tile. Soooooo .... is the Z that says "Open Space" liquid hot magma, or not?

The "open space" is magma with no floor under it. The other one is semi-molten rock under magma.

Yes, It's an "Open space" (no solid contents) filled with 7/7 magma fluid.  It's just like water in a lake in that regard.
