Couple of unrelated questions.
« on: September 21, 2012, 07:10:26 pm »

1. Dwarves gets happy thoughts when they pass an artifact. I was wondering if a workshop is made of an artifact and I assign a useless and repetitive task, will they also get happy thoughts from it? Or is it just when they pass by?

2. Marksdwarves can shoot multiple z-levels down, but can they also shoot through water/magma? Does this also apply to war animals? Assuming that the projectile doesn't melt/boil.

3. Are floor grates immune to building destroyer when targeted from the bottom, or are floor hatches the only ones?

4. More of a modding question, can an interaction add and remove tokens? Like adding [NO_SLEEP] and removing [ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT]?

4.  interaction can remove or add some tokens.  If I remember correctly what can be changed by interactions is determined by what can be the target of IT_REQUIRES. check out http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2012:Interaction_token for more.  on the specific tokens you give, yes on NOSLEEP no on ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT

It's faster to write "!!science!!" than any of the synonyms: "mad science", "dwarvern science", or "crimes against the laws of god and man".

1. Dwarves get happy thoughts when they look at buildings - artifact furniture just happens to count as a very valuable building. Said thoughts happen randomly when the dwarf is standing near the building - if the dwarf is working inside the workshop, that would probably be enough to do it.

2. Water? Yes. Magma? Most likely not.

3. Floor grates most likely behave exactly the same as hatch covers with regards to building destroyers.

4. See hiroshi42's reply.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.
