Get rid of "open space floor" ?

I'm trying to build a roof, and some tiles show up as 'floor' and 'open space'.  How do I get rid of them?  I can't remove them as a construction or build over it them either.

You have ordered floors constructed there already, but the dwarves haven't constructed them yet. Hit 'q' and you can cancel the constructions from there.
