This is odd and Im not sure what's going on.  I recently had a fire in a dirt hallway and quickly after, 2 "urist has bled to death" messages.  There are no reports on their bleeding to death, or about a fire and hasn't been any combat for about 1 year.  Is the fire and the bled to death messages linked?  Any idea whats going on?  What would cause a random fire or these 2 gents to suddenly fall dead from bleeding?  Do vampires cause fires?

I should add that this fire was near the top level of my fortress in a hallway with no workshops or magma even close.

Fire boils the fat out from under the skin causing dwarves to bleed to death so they're probably related although a lot of things can cause a dwarf to bleed to death. If you've modified your raws you may have a material with a really low combustion point, beyond that I'm not sure what could cause a random fire but I'm sure someone here can tell you.

Military dwarfs sometimes get in trouble when they carry booze.  It explodes.

What kind of critters are in the region, at the present time? Press u, then right arrow twice, to see um all.  One of them maybe got a fire attack?  Fire Imp, or something on the list?

Last two fires I had, were the result of a Dragon on topside and a Forgotten Beast in a cavern.  I seal up magma pools quickly after breaching them, to avoid rogue Fire Imps.  Could you have left a door down to a magma pool open?  Good luck, Knutor

Oddly enough, I have never had a fire imp, only nice magma crabs. I feel flaming-death deprived.

After you breach the caverns, dirt tiles will grow 'moss'. This stuff catches fire just like grass above ground.  I'll build paved roads on it to avoid !!FUN!!

Also, are you using any mods, or did any raw editing?

Update.  I havent edited the raws.  I use lazy noob pack with soundsense and DT.  At one point about 3 years ago game time I used DF hack to clean the map and clean fluids off weapons and equipment for FPS increase and thats it.  It wiped off about 4600 bloodspatters spread around the game.  That would have been the only edit I can think of.

As far as monsters on my map goes, I have no fire imps or demons.  Mostly Rhinos and eagles.  I do have 1 magma crab, but I know he's deep in the slag and is safely sealed off from the moment breached the lava.

What on earth are you talking about? Booze has NEVER been explosive in ANY released version of DF. All that happens when it gets heated up is that it boils - in the earlier 2D versions, this may have caused scalding damage (just like steam), but ever since temperature was implemented it has been completely harmless.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Boiling looks like exploding, and it leads to a tragedy inexplicably considered worse than dwarven death...loss of alcohol.

Very intriguing.  My CSI itch is screaming.

How about the reports?  Were those two dwarfs in combat, a duel possibly, prior to death with a booze carrying mountain gnome who caught on fire?  Did a spark ignite that booze?  Any firefly remains on the map?  Stockpile>Remains, that lists em all, if a bookie is present.  Maybe a firefly lit up a cat, and it fled to its owner, below ground, carrying the flame on its hide.  Then lit up his owner.  Owner lit up another and deaths double homicide followed.  You did remove the blood and not change it all to booze, with that hack, right?  Would a dropped Firefly ichor on a booze spilt square, start a fire?  Never tested it..  Had to be something up top...  Is your embark by a volcano?  Wiki mentions magma mist as a fire starter that travels across Z-levels.  One level down, ONLY?  Or did the topside burn as well?

A mountain gnome and booze.  They don't show up, until detected.  Is this a good zone, with sun berry crops and bubbles, and unicorns, & what have you?  If it was only in a hallway, alone, I'm going with ignited booze in a flamable container.

No reports.  The death stopped at the 2 men.  The fire kept spreading and making me nervous for about 2 more minutes then snuffed itself out before hitting my food stocks.  No fireflys, it's not a volcano embark, no firefly.  Only 1 major forgotten beast but it didnt have spittle.  The mystery remains unsolved.  I have no idea what caused the fire.  The first person to perish to the fire was a civilian without booze on his person, shortly after a marksmen died of blood loss near the fire on a staircase.  There was smoke around my fort for awhile causing irritation but it went away and havent had it happen again.  I should note that at the time a ghost of a fallen soldier wasn't too far away.  Can haunting ghosts of dead dwarves start a fire?

Yes.  Ghosts pickup items, and drop them elsewhere.  Could it have picked up something on fire?  I don't know what that could have been, however.  Unless it was a burning corpse.  Do FB's come in that variety.  Fire/Magma skin, scale, etc.  I have had Forgotten Beasts spawn in a hallway, which I had thought to be sealed off, and was in point of fact sealed off, because it later flooded and didn't leak.  Bug, I guess.

Are there any named corpses in or around that hallway, from a fragile FB, that died vs that one Marksdwarf.  Maybe its death set events in action.  Boy, what a conundrum!  Knutor
