I remember once in High School art class we had to do this. Despite not ever being very good at drawing portraits, I spent hours on the thing. I painstakingly drew every bit of face, every clump of hair. I shaded, despite having no experience with shading.
When I was done, I sat back and looked at it, feeling a bit disappointed. "It looks horrible," I thought.
"I spent so much time on it, surely it'd look better than that!" Then, suddenly it dawned on me.
It wasn't the portrait that was ugly... It was the subject!

Dun dun dunnnn.

Cue me dropping out, going on a diet and losing 15kg or so. A pity I don't still have that picture...
