trouble with pathing
« on: August 23, 2012, 01:15:39 pm »

I have constructed the first levels of walls for a first outdoor fortress.  I queued up a lot of wood to be harvested as I need the charcoal.  Something annoying happened, however.  All my dwarves decided that rather than running up and down the drawbridge (its on level 2, connected by ramp) they would run on the 1-tile wide wall itself to the second drawbridge, jamming up and destroying the frame rate.  I attempted to restrict the wall traffic and set a high traffic path through the castle courtyard, but to no avail.  I plugged the hole with a constructed wall, so they simply can't path there, but now 5-6 dwarves are just standing on the walls as if theres no way down, despite the ability of other dwarves and animals to path up and over the drawbridge.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've ordered the blocks destroyed and ramps built.  Suggestions for fixing this?

They do have to run through a limestone block stockpile to get to the second drawbridge.  But I didn't expect that was a problem...

Try using a "restricted" traffic designation on top of the walls. If they still path there then there must be no other way to go.
