Old fashioned garbage dump for stone management
« on: August 23, 2012, 09:49:59 am »

I've read the wiki, but it shows out of date with the new release.  I build a dump using the old format and it worked (to a point) but I can't stop the dwarfs from putting corpses of animals in it which is causing horrible miasma.  To top that off, I can't figure out how to get them to remove the corpses.

Any pointers here?

If they are putting corpses/refuse in the garbage zone(i-d) you must have designated them to be dumped(d-b-d). If you have a corpse or refuse stockpile make sure it outside else it will generate miasma. To remove the dump designation use d-b-c on the garbage zone and d-b-D on all the dump designated item outside it. They will then start moving it to the stockpiles.

As before, it must be something you did, nothing changed on this, except maybe slower hauling on heavy stuff

Do you have a standing Order set to Dwarves Dump Corpses?

I do, didn't want any intruding animals killed and left inside.

Well that's it then I would guess since you are literally ordering your dwarves to put corpses in Dumps. If you don't want them to do that, change the order.

If you want them to put them in corpse stockpiles you should change the order to Dwarves Save Corpses.

Technical note: Corpse stockpiles are only for dwarven corpses. Corpses from any other creature go in a refuse stockpile.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

The best thing to do is dig a hole and designate the top as a dump. Dwarves will toss the corpses into that and it won't mias because it's outside.

...Unless he digs the hole indoors.

Here's a tip, though... Use Russian characters in your WPA5 passphrase. If your spontaneous AI is anything like my spontaneous AI (not as aggressive as yours, good conversation, but actually worse than me at chess*), it can't handle any character outside of the CODEPAGE 437 list.

*I hope. It could just be lulling me into a false sense of security.

I guess what's throwing me off is that there is no longer a "build dump" option.  You can designate but only for refuse.  And I don't see a settings in there to forbid all items except stone.

I know I've used this in older versions with no issues so this is something that is related to the new version.

Dump zones are zones, they don't have options and are built through the [i] menu.
Maybe you are confusing a dump zone with a refuse/garbage stockpile?
