I'm hoping there's a better way to manage and visualize my dwarves' professions, by which I mean my designated armorer or stonecrafter or marksdwarf. After enough skill, they'll be listed as their profession in the Units menu, and they'll only have one labor enabled so they're recognizable in dwarf therapist.
However, the military is more of a problem. Since the professional title changes if they're on or off duty, and I might want them to train as marksdwarves when they have the highest skill in Axedwarf, the profession listed is not necessarily how I want them to show up on the units menu. In Dwarf Therapist, they have no marker for their profession (without hovering over their name, which is a pain).
Right now, I'm using this method:
Urist McDwarf is to be my newest Axedwarf. Nickname him 'Ax Urist', so he shows up on the units menu and in dwarf therapist as 'Ax Urist' McDwarf. This way I can read from the units menu or therapist what profession I intend him to be, so I don't accidentally send him off to chop trees when he should be training. This also lets me assign squads more easily, since I can see which dwarves should be on which squad while I'm assigning them. I also can set custom profession names so they won't change with the skill levels, but this doesn't help on the squads menu or therapist.
Is this really the best way? Is there another way to use dwarf therapist to conspicuously indicate which dwarves should be doing what?
I'm using DF v0.34.11 and dwarf therapist v0.6.12.
