So what is this Rutherer you guys keep talking about, wiki doesn't say much, except that it's big and gives a lot of meat.

Viable for defence? Found in cavers right?

A huge grey beastie generally employed by goblins, although it can be found running wild in caverns.

You just need to mod them in.

Adding [TRAINABLE] to a creature won't break the game.

Without modding, what can you do with non-war trained Cave Crocodiles (such as those captured during a siege)?

Put them in a locked chamber with nest boxes?  Pit them for meat?

My RAWs are modded to make them war-trainable.  I have crocs here and there on chains as tunnel guards, four female crocs with nest boxes near the kitchens pumping out eggs for cooking, and a cage with 40 war trained crocs linked to a lever at a tunnel intersection (aka the croc bomb).  If the goblins got too far into one of the trap tunnels the one war croc pastured past the door at the end used to go attack them.  He took wounds from three different goblin sieges before they finally killed him - and this included one attack where the goblins had a unit of their own cave crocs.  So there was a croc vs croc duel while the dwarves and goblins fought.

No love for war jabberers ?
I like jabberers. They're a little slow to breed, though maybe they don't stack up too badly against rutherers and cave crocs. A comparison between the three:

Jabberers: 1-2 per breeding cycle, mature at one year old. Hatch at size 5000, 2,000,000 at one year old, 4,500,000 at two years old. Max age: 10-20.
Rutherers: twins and triplets common, mature at ten years old. Born at size 300,000, 1,500,000 at two years old, 3,000,000 at five years old. Max age: 40-60.
Cave crocs: 20-60 per breeding cycle, mature at three years old. Hatch at size 70, 300,000 at one year old, 600,000 at two years old. Max age: 60-100.

Not too shabby as individuals, though as a species their small clutches make building up a breeding reserve force slow going.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
