Use air distortions to obscure your location?

Use air distortions to distort the air.

The Magus Chronicles

Ignore this- I accidentally deleted the text. To summarize, you're fighting the leader and losing after blocking his fireball with air distortions and being lightly burned.

What do you do?

Character:
Name: Archibald Andropov the Third
Age: 92
Squad: Heaven's Fury
Weapon: Fighting staff; "Sunblade"
Wounds: one gash on your lower body, bleeding lightly; right shoulder lightly burned by the fire blast. Mildly panicked.

And, of course, please feel free to critique my writing.

In any case it would be a battle of critical thinking and I refuse to fight an unarmed individual.

Slice him in the lower chest, and burn his right shoulder with FIRE.

Use your staff as a focus for your fire magic, throwing flames from it whenever it strikes.

The Magus Chronicles

Desperately parrying yet another blow from the leader, you sink into focus, life energy flowing out to the tip of your staff. Parrying a stab, you slash down across his body, throwing flames from the tip of your blade. The leader stops the blow, but the fire scorches him, making him scramble back out of the range of the flames, 20 feet away. His smoldering body drips black mist and smoke. He takes a step towards you, starting to charge up a blast of magic more powerful than you have ever known- and collapses, his ruined body dropping to the forest floor, mist flowing from it. You glance around in panic, and it's justified- two surviving members of your group is being beset upon by five enemies, Destival is defending himself against two, and Nestren is dealing with the same.

Throw him into a wall, and then kick him in the head.
