A frozen extract quiver?
« on: August 12, 2012, 09:41:57 pm »

This made my day
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's a quiver made of cave floater juice. Anyone know how in the circus this happened? FYI, I allowed Dwarves to access caves 1-3, that's why I have cave floaters available.

My best guess is that Cave Floater juice is congealed at whatever DF considers "room temperature" (ergo qualifying as a solid), and is extracted from an animal, leading the game to somehow mistake it for a workable material.

The quiver could just be a block of jelly with arrows stuck in it.

I agree with the 'block of jelly' quivers.

This could spark a whole line of designer equipment.  Just think of all the Frozen GDS Ichor helmets and frozen beast vomit backpacks!  Quick, someone get on this idea before the elves steal it!

If I'm not mistaken this might be related to the bug involving slaughtering cave floaters, where the products are cave floater juice and cave floater vapour (IIRC). Basically, what you're seeing is the cave floaters' equivalent of skin/hide.

I had a "Liquid Barrel" a while ago, it seemed to be made of, not contain liquid. I was very newb at the time, so I could be wrong though.

9/10 times this means your raws are fucked. I imagine there are other problems with the game trying to make objects out of the wrong parts. It's possible the quivers will immediately melt when taken out of the wagon so be wary.

Once made into an object, things like that are tempraturee safe. As long as he dosen't leave it exposed to magma, it should be fine.

I'm imagining that this things looks a good deal like a quiver made of horrible flavor fruit roll ups.

It's just this bug - cave floaters have skin which (by default) is marked as being tannable into leather, but they don't have a LEATHER material which causes the game to create it out of the creature's 1st material (which is cave floater juice).

The same thing happens with cave blobs, only in that case it just ends up being made of (glitchy) skin.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

And now we know. And knowing is half of not blowing all of your starting points on quiver-shaped cave floater juice.

My first thought was "yay for duplicate raws!" upon seeing the title.  This is somehow even more awesome.
