It's totally possible, since Minecraft's mods are pretty much literally java hacks.

Well, I have no clue about modding Minecraft, but it seems probable that fiddling with magma physics would be too tough to worry about. A better thing to worry about is, how could we get variable flow? Don't doors in MC stop fluids regardless of open/closed state?

Pistons and redstone. Pistons are nifty blocks that extend an arm outward when powered and retract it when not powered, and they also push blocks (although the arm itself counts as a solid block).

Neat. I don't really know anything about Minecraft except what I've gathered from the wiki and from playing the free mobile version. Which sucks, but is better than most free games I've been able to find.

Both are good games. They are both very different games as well. One is attempting to achieve something different then the other, and vis-versa.

You cant compare them to one another fairly.

I was thinking more along the lines of this legendary champion, all clad in dented and dinged up steel plate, his blood-drenched axe slung over his back, a notch in the handle for every enemy that saw the swing of that blade as the last sight they ever saw, a battered shield strapped over his arm... and a fluffy, pink stuffed hippo hidden discretely in his breastplate.

So, it would be handy if someone went over the LP and answered a few questions I have. Your reward is greater overall immersion when playing the map :P

Here's an image circa Sankis' turn, with my annotations.

I don't think even the LPers knew what half of the stuff was by the second turn...

Oh, that's good. It's always nice to hear reviews saying that you're playing the wrong (5/10 it's a tool to make you feel like you have an imagination) game in a thread about making a large project in said game.

seriously though

My opinion on Minecraft is that its a good game, but its way more populer then it deserves. I remember getting that game in alpha, before it bandwagoned, then, the 8 year olds came......

Minecraft's popularity is too much and is detracting from my enjoyment of DF which is free, curse its fame and popularity

Honestly though, it got boring after I got diamonds. I mean really, what is there to do in that game?

well you can build stuff but honestly who does that

Theres just so little content and so little effort.

but the world is so huge and you can build cool stuff! and easy 3-D projects!

Some mods have added more content to that game then thats been added since 2010.

Probably because mods don't have to work out the actual game and nobody is yelling at them to include or not include stuff. I feel like I'm on the MC forums again.

Me and my sister were just having this argument. It went like this;

I bet in this transcription your sister lost the argument

"Minecraft requires imagination"

kinda I guess?

"No, its a tool to make you feel like you have an imagination"

This is the line where I went from to . Because hot damn! Now we're in the realm of "THIS GAME IS FOR STUPID PEOPLE" and seriously. Yes. It's an imagination substitute. Only DF players have real imaginations. Everyone else is faking it.

"Its like writing a book!"

Not really but I see where this is coming from?

"Dwarf Fortress is like you and the god of blood taking turns writing sentances in a book. Go play that"

I was reading this book and a quote from it was "All analogies are flawed". I can see why.

*Silence*

"This is the fifth time today you've asked that, give it a rest!"

Its got some really good mods, il give it that.

"Except the people who made the actual game are fake and gay bcuz they dont include nuclears"

I think iv spent 800 hours with Tekkit, perfecting my Diamond making machine Mk3.

So you DID pay for the game! Now your imagination has atrophied!

Though once it got populer, the community went to shit.

BRING BACK NOTCH HE WILL MAJICKLEY UNITE THE COMMUNITY AND FIX ALL GAME

I would rate it 5/10, 3 of those points from the mods. Dayum those mods are good.

Ah, it gets 2/10 except third-party mods get 3/10. I'd say this makes no sense but then whatever. In other news, I give DF 8/10 but mods bump it up to 12/10.

It's like this thread is a magnet for whining

-snip-[/img]
Y U SO HOSTILE!? Note to self, dont talk about Minecraft in any bad way anywere on the internet ever.

anyway, its a thing ot talk about. I think I was a bit to harsh there. I still like that game, I have to say, but it got old without mods. Fast. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and alot of people like it. Im just not a fan of it (Though I play it alot with mods). I still think it has too little content, and no one can argue that the community is pretty low end, but not terrible. I also wouldent say its for "Stupid people", it still requires you to be smarter then a broom, but I think people enjoy saying that its "educational" too much. I dont know, I kindof have mixed opinions. When I said that its a "tool to make you to think your using your imagination", what I meant was "People use this as an excuse to say there using their imagination and not playing a video game". Dayum im having a hard time explaining myself here. I guess I just dont like this game. But everyone is entitled to their opinion. I certantly see the appeal there, though, and its definatly fun to build things, its just not my thing I guess.

Now, can we stop talking about Minecraft :P

I remember a few things. I don't really understand your annotations, but here goes:
  • I don't know what's up with the channels. Maybe they worked differently in the 2D version.
  • I also don't know what your question about the "who?!" part is. Who was buried there? I have no idea.
  • The big question mark part looks like somebody dug out an ore.
  • The engineering stuff doesn't make a lot of sense. It looks like it's supposed to flood the hall and then the river, but I don't think it was ever used. Confusing.
  • What do you mean with "Tombs need (Ding)"?
  • The important-looking part was Unknowing's project, and obviously it's an exact replica of the Sanctus Serimon, the most famous location from Wizards and Warlocks.
  • The other question mark looks like noble rooms to me, filled with stuff that nobles like to buy.
  • The mm room (?) is an arena. Sankis used it for revenge on Mystic Mongol.
That was all I knew. Oh, one more thing: there is a more recent map at the end of mariguana's turn.

IDing, sorry :P

And yeah, it was asking who was buried there. I guess it's like a confusing whiteboard scrawl that only made sense once to one person (both the annotations and the fort :P ).

And I had found the more recent map, but I thought I'd check over the older one because it's less covered by miasma.

Most likely, random dwarves were buried there. Everyone who left a corpse, at least.

If you made all of the ground outside of the fort out of Emberstone (whatever that stuff's called) then would the fire spread across the map when u unleashed lava?

No. Fire doesn't spread to Netherrack, but if you do light it (manually) then it'll burn forever. However, there's no good way to ignite it.

Surface grasses, however, do burn :D

Anyway, those rooms seem tomb-y. The ones deep inside are probably for nobles, but the one that opens outside is more intriguing - it's special, what was it used for?

This is like archaeology :P if only we had recovered the Lost Saves of Boatmurdered!
