So as a little side project before I go to university along with my drivers licence I'm interested in becoming a locksmith and I have been looking about the Internet for things on it but I'm not really sure on who to trust I have Looked at MLA website and their training, but I'm a bit skeptical about it because you don't need a licence but then again you have to be recognised and do training.

So is anyone here a locksmith or been interested them self? This is something which I find quite enjoyable and would just like to be trained in and sort of "licenced" as per say

No idea what your local regulations are. IIRC, here in the US (and it probably varies by state) you do need to be a licensed/registered locksmith or I think possession of lockpicks is illegal. Sorry I can't help you out more with the legalities of it.

But in the meantime, find a good set of picks and pick up a few lock assemblies at a hardware store, and a clamp. That's how I started learning. Clamp the lock assembly to the table and go to town.

well the law here is that it is legal to own lockpicks and carry them ( with a bloody good reason )

also there is no licence as per say for locksmithing but i think you have to become a member of a recognised organisation and do training with them (?) then you get recognised as being a member of that lock smith association instead of just a cowboy someone correct me if im wrong

oh and i have a major interest in locks and how they work and everything, i just bought a nice 22 set today for £50 which comes with 7 tension tools

its something i have a hobby in now, but would like to take to a professional level as sort of like a side thing

Depending on where you live, becoming licensed may be as easy as filling a form. I am a hobbyist only though.

i live in the UK hence uk in the top, unless your talking about county then i live in lincolnshire.

but i have had a look here http://locksmiths.co.uk/, not sure if legit or not dont want to spend alto of money for it to be bogus

You could try going to your local town hall and see if they know anything - if registration/licensing is required, it would probably take place there anyway.

Called a locksmith once because we left our keys in the house and mom left her key in the lock somehow.

What does he do?
Stick a rod through the bloody letterbox and twist the key that's in the lock.

If the key was Allready in the lock it would have been impossible to lockpick due to the pins in the tumbler Allready being pushed up by the key
