Please assist me with a communal dining room.
« on: August 14, 2006, 07:44:00 pm »

Alrighty, I was hoping one of you all could clear this up for me. I set up a dining room like this.

XXX XXX
X     X
X cTc X
X cTc X
X cTc X
X cTc X
X     X
XXX XXX

c = chair, T = table, X = wall

I selected a section of hte table and set it to a dining room, then turned on the "meeting hall" option. Will this allow all the dwarves to use the chairs and the table? Do I have to make the table 2 spaces wide? If I already have a meeting hall around a well will that mess it up? Thanks for any advice.

Two dwarves cannot eat from the same piece of table at the same time, but you'll likely find that dwarves won't be eating at the same time anyway, so you won't have anything to worry about.

Ah ok, thank you JT. I was worried that a section of table would be "assigned" to a single dwarf and no other dwarf would ever use the chair at the other side.

Thank you.

I'm not sure what's happening in practice, but if they can't find anything better, they should share the table.  It would give a different thought than not having a table at all and has less of an effect.  But they usually have other places to go anyway, and you should be fine until you get more little buddies fighting over space.

Ah.  I just assumed they couldn't share the same piece of table because they were never forced to share the same piece of table in any of my games: they always had room to use a different piece of table so they used it.  If they can use the same table, forget I said anything.

If you need help forgetting that I said anything, I'll need your home address and a large blunt object of some kind.

They can share tables, but they don't like it.
