I can't seem to find food in adventure mode :/ yeah, I'm pretty new here so go easy on me... Okay so how do I get food? Drink isn't any problem, though, when I get thirsty I slaughter something and drink up all the blood I can.

em, when you slaughter something, butcher it and pick up the meat, intestines and whatever (not the fat, it has to be rendered before it's edible). The killed thing needs to be big enough to be butchered, so hamsters don't work

alternatively, go into a village and into the houses. There are often bags with berries, strawberries and the like. They used to be free for the taking and they are unless they have $ $ around them

I'd assume that you used "slaughter" as "kill". There's an action called slaughter too, which gives you meat, intestines and other crap, some of which are edible.
