It is a browser-based MMO (it also has all that homo integration with facebook and twitter everything seems to have nowadays nevermind this because it doesn't make the game more casual or facebook-oriented AT ALL, it is also available for android and iPhone). But it is much more complex and entertaining than your average casual game, while keeping it casual. Actually it seems to have something that makes people unexplainably attracted by it. I've actually met (there are quite a few) hardcore players in this game and they treat it like kind of a serious business.

About Glitch

What is Glitch?
Glitch is a web-based massively-multiplayer game which takes place inside the minds of eleven peculiarly imaginative Giants. You choose how to grow and shape the world: building and developing, learning new skills, collaborating or competing with everyone else in one enormous, ever-changing, persistent world.

What's different?
For starters, it's all one big world. Which means everyone is playing the same game and anyone's actions have the ability to affect every other player in the game. It also involves very little war, moats, spaceships, wizards, mafiosos, or people with implausibly large muscles. Also: we have egg plants. Egg plants make it very different.
 
Why is it called Glitch?
"Glitch" is both the name of the game and its fundamental concept: the yin and the yang, the fundamental force, the alpha and omega, the path, the way, and most of all: the happy accidents of unfettered creativity. In Glitch, things don't always make sense at first. But that's where the fun starts.

What does it look like?
We comb the internet every single day looking for fresh and original visual styles. The look varies as you travel around the world, from psychedelia to surrealism, Japanese cutesie to hypersaturated pixel art, classic cartoon to contemporary mixed media. We love awesome illustration and animation and part of our mission is to find the best of the best and bring it to a wider audience.

How much does it cost?
Glitch is free to play. Some game items (like fabulous clothing and accessories for your avatar, and teleportation tokens) are purchasable, but none of these items impact your game play. To be good at Glitch—you actually have to be good at Glitch. Premium accounts are also available by subscription, allowing players access to additional avatar customization as well as monthly stipends of credits, teleportation tokens, and ballot votes.

Can I play with my friends?
Of course. In fact, there are lots of things in the game that are much more awesome if they're done with friends. We make it easy for you to find them. And since it is all one big world, there are no worries about who is on what server.


What technology does it use?
(Heh. Nerd.) The game client is Flash (though someday there will be other clients) and the server is built in a fairly new and different way for a game: the back end (java at the lowest level, with game logic scripted in Javascript) is designed for maximum flexibility and ease of deployment. That means we'll be able to push new content — new items, new places, new characters — on a daily basis. It also means that we have lots of APIs with which the game can be expanded and extended.

What are the system requirements?
A web browser with Flash installed, on pretty much any computer purchased in the last few years.

It is on closed beta technically. They've sent a wave of invites these days and each player are getting (again, it was disabled) invites for their friends periodically if they play.

I still got 3 invites if you're really interested in playing. Like if you've read through all the thread, searched about it and felt like playing. If you want it just to try, please, refrain from asking.

If you watch the intro on the main site VERY carefully you will sorta see that this is basically just a fancy facebook game.

At one point the person harvests a Cherry to build Cherry drink making skills.

It is not. You don't have a play limit by day.

It doesn't have all of that integration with facebook, you can find people that play and share stuff (but you can do that with pretty much everything these days).

I, for one, have been misguided by the game's concept and looking as well. But it is actually quite deep and entertaining. You get your "energy" reset every game-day, which is 4 hours IRL (which is VERY little if you compare to "energy games") and energy is not the same as it is for most games at all. You can get your energy restored by doing things in-game pretty easily. Most (if not all) of the game's income is through vanity items.

I don't get what you meant about the cherries. Harvesting is a bad thing? Anything drink/food related is pretty overlooked in the game anyway since it gives little return compared to other skills.

Couldn't we keep the discussion in the original thread? It's got much more information, including info on the Bay12 group there.

And no, this is NOTHING like a Facebook game. You can play for hours nonstop. Or days, if you want. The energy thing gets used up as you do things, but it is very easily restored. I think the only reason the energy bar exists is because if you aren't paying attention and use it all up accidentally, you "die" and have to make your way back through hell. But letting time pass doesn't do anything good for you, other than learning skills in the background. Actually, your energy *decreases* if you just sit around doing nothing.

I'm not even sure where people are getting this "facebook integration" thing. I've never seen anything to do with Facebook on the site, except for it asking me if I wanted to link to Facebook when I signed up. I said no, and it was never mentioned again.

Look in the original forum thread for some screen shots I posted. This game is pretty deep and fun actually.
