Memorials question

So I've had a pretty busy year and am just getting into the 2012 version of DF.

I had a mason roasted by a fireball and burned up so I'm trying to memorialize him so he doesn't come back to haunt me.

I constructed some slabs in the mason's shop. They are in the stockpile and are constructable so not flagged for hauling or anything like that. I set up the engrave memorial job in the craft shop and it is immediately cancelled because "needs unengraved slab". What gives?

Do the engraver has acess to the slabs? Are they forbidden? Is the workshop forbidden?

Let the slabs reach the stockpile first. Its like if you were to try and construct a door but its still being hauled to the stockpile.

The slabs are in the stockpile. As I said above I was able to construct the unengraved slabs.
