What's killing my minecart's momentum?
« on: July 26, 2012, 07:06:10 pm »

I'm trying to build a minecart shotgun yoyo, but I've run into an inexplicable problem.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The levels above this are a sheer spiral ramp of about seven levels, with a roller at the top that gives it a good push down and is switched off by the pressure plate to allow the cart to roll back to its starting position. The pressure plate also opens the door and switches on the roller that boosts the cart back up the ramp.

The process starts smoothly, with the pushed cart hitting the first ramp at one tile every two ticks and taking the final half a dozen ramps at one tile a tick. It moves at that speed onto the roller tile shown, the one next to it, and the one right above the (unused) gear. Then it suddenly slows down, entering the corner track tile about eleven ticks later. The cart itself is made of candlenut (5L unloaded, 877L currently), should that information matter. The track connections, from corner to roller, are SE, EW, EW, and NW.

(The unused gear should be attached to some rollers that push the cart south to make it round the corner and continue its journey after it crashes into the wall. I dismantled that part of the system trying to find the problem.)

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.
