Must....EAT
« on: July 24, 2012, 05:18:08 am »

So, I woke up after sleeping in a keep. I was hungry and thirsty, so I took a sip of wolf blood from my helmet. Still thirsty. I took another sip of wolf blood, whoch quenced my thirst. Then I ate emu meat until my character claimed he's too full. BUT HE'S STILL HUNGRY! And after a couple of minutes, he was thirsty again! And refuses to drink as well... What has happened? Has some vampire bitten me during my sleep? I have 5 followers, if that changes anyhting. I found a mysterious "peasant" sleeping on the lowest stair of the tower, to whom I couldn't speak. I also hadn't seen any peasants around earlier. Ideas?

You can only eat/drink a few times (3 I think) before being "too full" to eat/drink anymore. Hopefully this will be changed in future versions. Just wait a while or wander around a bit then you will be able to eat/drink again.

Also don't panic if you see hungry/thirsty. It doesn't mean you're on the verge of death or anything. There are varying levels of hunger and thirst. The indicators will change color as they get more severe. You'll know when you desperately need to eat or drink.

A pink-lettered status is the ringing bell that tells how your adventurer is almost dead. A bit like the real stuff, you can survive a few days without eating or drinking anything, heck, even without sleeping; doing this around a scorching desert makes no difference at all, but I might be wrong.

However, you'll experiment a serious hinderance while fighting with these conditions, so make sure you're well fed and fresh before any hunting or questing.

How'd u manage that? I got caught in a cave a few characters ago (put a camp fire where I shouldn't have). I slept the whole time and died after only a few days.

Yeah I was trying to see if sufficient hunger would enable me to butcher sentients or at the very least some night trolls.

I wandered for several days only drinking until I got fed up with it all and ate again.

But I did find a way to get the bones from sentients, you just need to sever as many limbs as you can, separating hands from arms, lower body from upper body and head from torso. The easiest way to do this is to be a necromancer and carefully aim your attacks.

Finally enter the travel map, move one tile and re-enter the tile with all the body parts. They should now be stacks of bone. However you will get many "xxxx upper leg bone [2]" or "lower spine bone" or "hand bone", which Im unsure if they are usable or not. The only part that will be "xxx bone [30]" will be the torso.
The only difficult part is cutting the correct parts and then finding the scaterred bones.

Very convenient for getting Night Troll bones for a future fortress.

Another solution to getting bones I've found is throwing all the corpses into a pile next to a tree and burning it. Sometimes it leaves bones. Mostly ash, though.

That is extremely good to know. Ive been carrying around minotaur bones for ages hoping to use them in the fort.

The marksdwarf captain will look very pimp in full dragon bone armor while commanding his squad of screaming troll/ogress of shadow bone-clad marksdwarfs. All firing from minotaur bone crossbows, decorated with unicorn horns. I cant wait.

I believe if you drop all of your stuff into a "lair" type site from a night troll or something similar then it will remain there if you wish to embark on it. The person in question was butchering things that normally wouldn't be butcher able in fortress mode in adventure mode in order to stash the bones away for later.
