Pretty much what the title says.
What is your favorite game, obviously with friends to play over lan or with more then one person on the same console. (multiple controllers, but having two consoles and playing over lan is good too, albeit a bit expensive)

For me its ratchet and clank: arena.
Went over to a friend and we ended up playing on his PS2, where he had ratchet and clank arena with all mega weapons except the harbinger, most of them level 99. So we leveled up those that werent level 99 yet, and had a fucking great time.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

Me and my brother have so many of these, but I guess I'd have to say the Soulcalibur games. For one reason or another we're generally unevenly matched at most fighting games (either he's way better at it or I am), but on the Soulcalibur series (especially the recent ones, IV and V) we play on about equal skill level.

Our second favorite is Quake 3/OpenArena. Just so much mindless fun.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl. For sure. Definitely.

Too bad all my friends are pretty terrible at it. My cousins are amazing though, having played since the N64 original.

Earth Defense Force! I've had tons of fun playing that with friends. It might look like crap but nothing beats having to kill thousands of giant ants, giant robots, giant space ships, giant space stations and of course, giant fire-breathing godzilla-like creatures!
Fable: Heroes is a decent game when you've had a couple of drinks or something along those lines (*winkwink*). There's absolutely no challenge in it at all even on the hardest difficulty but competing with each other for the most gold is a lot of fun.

For the rest? Hmm...There were quite a few games that I've played on the couch with friends but none of them really stand out. Some games like Goldeneye: 007 for the N64 come to mind but playing that now wouldn't be that interesting anymore.

Mindless fun is the best fun.

San Fransisco rush 2049 is pretty awesome. Old Dreamcast game, but 4 player stunt arena with wings on your cars is ridiculous fun.

The Halo series is usually pretty cool too, especially if you can get a second console involved and have 8 players.

Resident Evil 5 has some good coop action for two people, as does the first EDF game for the 360. The recent one is kinda crap, but the original is sold coop gold. (And I dunno why Shadowgandor says there's no challange? Game can be well hard) Saints Row 2 is another one, though I think that might have to be played system link.

Also for mindless button mashing fun, Dynasty Warriors: Gundam 2/3 are really addictive in coop.

No no! I was talking about Fable Heroes posing no challenge at all. Earth Defense Force is quite challenging actually, going from pushover easy on the easiest difficulty to ballcrushingly hard on the hardest difficulty.
The game does reward you with better weapons when playing on the harder difficulties so that kind of compensates for it.

I should play Earth Defense Force at some point considering that one of my friends was a level designer for it.

Yes you should. :p As long as you don't take the game too serious, it's a lot of fun

My friends and I play the original Halo over LAN in our high school's computer lab at break. We also have Starcraft Broodwar tournaments. It's a hell of a lot of fun.

I recall Age of Empires II being amazing. Also had some nice Battle Realms LAN at some point in school.

Currently, however, it is SUPAH STREET FIGHTER FOUR (arcade edition).

Playing Age of Empires II/Star Wars: Battlegrounds is always fun.

2 players against a decent computer player; it helps to coordinate an attack. I mean, I recall having my sister building up her forces in her base while I hold a defense perimeter at a central choke point, and just behind that is a colossal force of battering rams and cavalry units. I send a few of each to aim after the economic buildings and villagers (ignoring light defense, unless it's too heavy), and boom, their offensive is weakened severely, and as that happens, my sister sends her forces in to soften them up, and while she's providing a distraction, I have another volley of eco-smashers come in, and after they're worn out sufficiently, I send in my entire armada after them, and their city collapses like a house of cards.

Good times.
