Hamlets Disappearing?
« on: July 23, 2012, 01:06:28 pm »

So, the direction indicator thingy lead me to a supposed hamlet. There was nothing anywhere near it! Extremely frustrating, because I have to spend my nights in the wilderness and kill a pack of bogeymen every night. Good leveling though.

Do you see any houses on the travel map?

Nope, and I could almost swear that the houses were on that spot the last time I visited the hamlet

Just asking to be sure, in case you don't know: I mean the map from fast-travel (T), that should give a site map if you are near a hamlet/town.

Yeah, I meant that. I'm using phoebo's graphics, so I'm not sure, byt the only thing even closely resembling buildings was a door, and there was nothing in that area.

With that site map you should not see doors...
Tileset does not matter.
I mean something like this:

Those two are not equivalent - the former is what you would see in version 0.31.25 and earlier (though not too much earlier), while the latter is what you get in 0.34.01 and later.

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I know, I was just lazy and took two random pics from the wiki to explain what I mean by "site map".

EDIT: I guess the OP does not know about site maps because I can't imagine a hamlet would just dissapear.

For me, the phoebus graphic pack has replaced the vanilla map symbols, and it seems that the "door" seems to appear on crossroads. It's probably just that because I've tried modding a bit I've messed something up and the direction/distance indicator wen't crazy on that particular village. I can find the other sites, but that village is somewhere else. There was a mass of dogs, cats and geese nearby, but circling around them in a wide arc didn't help me find the hamlet.

Ok, sorry I misunderstood you here. The mayday tileset uses doors for crossroads too, but I didn't really think of that. My bad.
Using the site map usually works for me to find houses. If the animals are still there, it may be better to find the middle of the fields/grazing areas instead of circling around it.

Yeah, I just moved on actually. I noticed that there was a castle not too far away.
