The Manager
« on: July 21, 2012, 03:45:37 am »

If I set my workshops to repeat tasks, and then use the Manager to order some items, what happens? Will the repeat tasks being temporarily cancelled, the manager's orders be filled, and then continue? Or will the managers orders not be filled due to the existing repeat tasks? Or will the managers orders be filled and the repeat tasks cancelled?

Thanks :)

If I remember correctly, then your repeat task will not be calcelled, as manager jobs will alway be appended to any existing work orders.
But try it in the game ;) and see what happens.
(And ask this kind of direct questions in the 'DF Gameplay Questions' section of the forum.  ;) )

The manager just adds jobs to a workshop's queue until your order is completed. Workshop queue items are always done in order. If one is set to repeat, it will be crafted and then put at the end of the queue.

So, if there's one repeatable item already in the queue and then some one-time items are added by the manager, your crafter will make one of the repeatable items, put that job at the end of the queue, make all of the one-time items and then continue making the repeatable one.

Works just as fine with multiple repeatable items, by the way. You could set your clothier to make shirts, make pants and make shoes, set all three on repeat, and he will make one complete set of clothing and then start over. Same thing with a farmer's workshop set to milk animals, make cheese and shear animals, for example.

The thing I miss about the manager is that he does not respect workshop profiles. I set a magma forge only to be used by my metalcrafter and another one only for my armorer. Then I order some armor and some metal crafts from my manager, and he spreads the tasks randomly among the workshops. The problem is, that the metalcrafting jobs added to the workshop of my armorer are never cancelled because the armorer does not feel respoinsible for dealing with metalcrafting jobs and the metalcrafter is not permitted to access the workhop (because it's profiled for the armorer).

I didn't know that! That's great!
