Capturing and Taming Animals
« on: July 11, 2012, 07:00:35 pm »

So I have been playing my fortress for about one in game year now and have decided that I want a piece of the wild animal dynamic, but I have not been able to figure out how to capture anything from the unit list, how does one capture an animal of this size and further, how does one train it? Any help will be much appreciated, thank you!

Noting their migration routes, and placing cage traps along it is a good basic technique. Creating choke points on their routes, and setting numerous cage traps there increases the efficiency of the traps.

Does the type of material change how effective it is?

Wood cages are lighter and it affects hauling time.  Metal cages are very heavy, and heavier still with a creature in it, so it will slow your dorf down.

That is an insane and dangerous plan.  I approve wholeheartedly.

as for how to train/tame animals, look at the wiki, I think animal trainer page. Note that training as a word is used both for taming wild animals and keeping them tame enough as well as war and hunting training
