Ah, that would make sense. Even my labor dwarves seem to be able to survive once or twice unharmed. Of course I better start locking the doors so children and nobles don't start decidedd to have a humanitarian streak well spikey spikes of doom are flying every which direction.

I just use them to train miners so I can eat through rock quickly. With Soldiers its less fun... makes the game way too easy. You want to train Military and have fun doing it? strip a random Kobold or Goblin prisoner of their weapons and armor, arm your melee squads with training weapons and have them beat on it for days. Marksdwarves? wait for a FB or Titan made of rock, arm everyone with bone/wooden bolts and fire away.

what were you expecting? spike traps are for killing things. you want to use training spears
I suspect agvkrioni forgot to read the disclaimer on the "Danger Room: Spikes of Death" packaging.
