Dune Fortress
« on: July 07, 2012, 12:50:25 pm »

Hello errbody. I'm a new player, having a blast so far but one thing about this game is weird. Every time I play it, I'm reminded of the whole Dune universe. I don't know if anybody here is familiar with it but that's the vibe this game gives me and I can't figure out why that is. I don't see how my mind links sci fi with drunken dwarves. Anybody else out there had this feeling? Or am I going looney?

Not just you. Annoyingly frustrating nobility, insane characters, people being mostly effective when on drugs/drunk.

I don't get much of a Dune vibe out of it, but now I wonder if introducing langoliers to the game could help with FPS problems in mature fortresses.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

The booze must flow.

Also, sandworms as megabeasts.

Heh, true "still"-suits. :D

And I can totally see adding sandworms to the game.  Getting their life-cycle right may be a bit of a challenge, however.

Zepave Dawnhogs the Butterfly of Vales the Marsh Titan ... was taken out by a single novice axedwarf and his pet war kitten. Long Live Domas Etasastesh Adilloram, slayer of the snow butterfly!
Doesn't quite have the ring of heroics to it...
Mother: "...and after the evil snow butterfly was defeated, Domas and his kitten lived happily ever after!"
Kids: "Yaaaay!"

Dwarves are kinda like fremen, vicious weird bastards who need drugs to function, are fiercely independent and brutal in a fight. Wouldn't be too hard to mod in harvesting water from the dead either...

The is/was a Dune Mod IIRC. Don't know if it was any good though.
