Traders as part of a migrant wave
« on: July 06, 2012, 01:01:50 pm »

What the titles says. Anyone have this happen to them?

Five dorf migrants show up, but two have the trader symbol and just stand at the edge of the map. They are listened as friendly traders, but won't come to the depot etc.

Le bug?

I had this. And it is possibly a bug involving the mechanism of the game deciding the attributes, skills etc. of the migrant.

DFHack can fix it.  I thought there was a command to use but I haven't had the problem (and I've had migrants with the "trader" profession) since having DFHack running.

I've had 3 traders turn up as migrants but apart from having that designation as their profession they've behaved like other migrants. Indeed I made one of them Captain of the Guard, though she's too busy giving birth left, right and centre to pay much attention to the actual job.

I believe I have had this occur and I believe it to be a bug. Basically Migrants (Doesn't have to be a Trader) show up but they appear in the Other's screen as 'Friendly Targets' and don't move from the Map Edge (sometimes blocking other Migrants from entering the map). This doesn't appear to be an isolated case either, I know that DimlerTheDark who recently did a Let's Play (Had non-Migrant Traders doing this) had that happen in his Fort, as well as my own Current Let's Play (Playlist #5 - Had a Trader do what you described) has had it happen.

Your case seems similar to mine, and it make relate to this bug here: http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=5098

Not sure if Dimler's problem is related, I think with his Migrants were related to a different bug. http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=6019

You should try playing till a Dwarven Caravan pops up and see if they will join the Caravan or not - then report to the thread above if you want.

Dfhack has a tool to make those traders part of your fort.

I thought Toady fixed this bug.  I used to see it every few migrant waves, but not with the most recent version.  What version are you running?

I don't understand, though that is about right with anything DF related.
