There's probably a thread like this somewhere (someone let me know if there is so I don't make too much of an ass of myself), but here goes. Basically, this is a thread for all your awesome ideas that failed for some reason you failed to see.

I'll start. After attempting to build a crypt where all the tombs can be flooded with magma, turns out corpses melt inside the coffins. I now have all these tombs with magma flooding mechanisms, but can't think of a way to use them. Tbh though, it does look pretty cool.

Making a waterfall. I was like, "Hey. This needs more water. I'll just shut the floodgate and tell him to dig out another space for water and hope he doesn't drown."
5 seconds later, the water flowed through the diagonal opening, 3 miners down the drain, literally. And everyone was like, "Socks." and they died, too.

Sounds like a subset of this thread... or that thread before it was re-purposed to include goofy AI mistakes and bad luck.

One of my most recent disappointments was this forums lack of an autocorrect. [/spellingrant]

On topic, I was disappointed by the lack of a happy thought from sleeping in a bedroom warmed in all directions by magma.

It took a month and two forts to build a green glass tower surrounded by a maze in a frozen wasteland, and another to pump water from the caverns into the tower. It only took one minute to realize the water would freeze the moment it was exposed to sunlight and I'd never fill the tower with temperature on.

If you're willing to devote that much time and effort to it, I'm surprised you didn't try an elaborate scheme to melt the ice with magma and then pump the magma out to avoid interaction and obsidian casting.
