Another cool new game enters playable state and it deserves some attention!
http://therealtexasgame.com/

The Real Texas is an action adventure game that plays like a mashup of Zelda: Link to the Past and Ultima VI.

Sam, an ordinary Texas rancher, is on holiday in England when he falls into a blue portal and lands in The Strange Texas.

Also, I will be doing a giveaway for this game next week, but if you want to be certain to get it at the low price($7.99) then you have to order this weekend as it will go back up after that to $15.

I've been playing this since the day it came out, and been enjoying the hell out of it. The text parser adds a really cool adventure element to it.

There is a bug when it comes to saving around the part where you defeat a wizard (not saving, losing progress.) If this happens to you, you can e-mail the developer with your save attached, and he'll fix it for you. He's at support@kittylambda.com. I forced my way past the bug without sending him my save, but I could've just gotten lucky.

Just had a go of this after winning it in Hemmingjay's contest (cheers again!). So far I'm really enjoying it, all kinds of items to collect and some good humor too.

At the moment im in a cave shooting at bandits for shocking chickens. :P

so, are all the dungeons part of the main quest or are there so optional ones?

Also, do weapons works like Zelda? That is, does each weapon have a different effect  that works better against only specif enemies?

I been meaning to get this, but I am still waiting for a in-depth review.

The weapons work like in Zelda, yes. Different weapons have different effects on the enemies.

As I said in the contest thread, this game is awesome and weird. And quite difficult.
Right now I'm blocked with the ghosts quest. >_<

I've been having fun with it. Game has a pretty entertaining story, with a lot of silliness and Easter eggs scattered about. It has a strong old-school Zelda vibe, with lots of little puzzles and various things you need to find to do different jobs. Different enemies require different weapons and specialized armor can change a dangerous enemy into a pussycat. So far I've found 4 weapon types, and two armors that protect against different things (one that blocks electricity, another that blocks bullets) and a fair number of utility items that you can wear.

One thing that bothers me a bit is the way many of enemies seem to be either unable to pose any threat or able to take you out in one go. When you take damage your char tends to double over repeatedly and keep dropping his weapon, and in the cases of the enemies that stun you when they hit you you can often be stunned and then double over as soon as you get unstunned and  draw your gun - then get hit and killed before you ever got a chance to move or shoot. None of the ones I've encountered yet are all that difficult though, as you can usually avoid them very easily - my deaths always seem to be a case of just not paying attention and suddenly being one shotted or stunlocked to death (or, in one case, reading an in-game note while my char was behind a wall and being killed silently by a monster that was also behind the wall, with me being unable to see either before I started reading the note).

The combat as a whole isn't all that challenging, your character recovers really quick from any damage so even if you keep taking near-lethal damage repeatedly you'll still be fine as long as you don't die in one go. The two boss fights I've had so far were really easy, but I don't think i'm that far into the game yet so I'm hoping for something interesting later on.

It's basically an action-adventure game, but the action part is fairly trivial so it plays more like your standard adventure game. It's still entertaining to go through for the adventure part though. I like the conversation system (Name, Job, Bye, various keywords - some hidden topics that you have to type in as they don't appear automatically) - it reminds me of the Ultima series, and the game has a fun little easteregg dedicated to the Ultimas.

One funny aspect is dressing your character. I'm not sure if it has any effect in the game, but my character looks ridiculous. Running around wearing a top hat with a bulletproof vest under a swan dress (which doesn't really cover the vest at all) with the quickdraw belt over that. Shoes are those rubber boots or whatever that protect from acid.

Everything except the swan dress has some nice utility feature - no idea if the swan dress does anything or not, but it was in a fairly difficult to get to location and looked so silly that I couldn't help but put it on in place of my tuxedo.
