Found two temples while searching for a suitable embark recently, both had scimitars.

the spear mentioned earlier is the oly case I've heard of of anything else but a sword. It may be a "sword in the stone" idea

Anything that is not a sword, please give us a screenshot or the save file (preferably the screen shot.) Without proof this study has no meaning.

This is the region where I began investigating......
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The 'centre' of the investigation is outlined in red.
And, so far, this is what I have discovered.
The red 'D' is the centre of the investigation and I am travelling slowly, (oh so slowly sometimes), in a clockwise path around the centre.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Draw whatever conclusions you want from that.

That is very interesting. A total of 24 weapons found, all using the sword skill.

My macbook can no longer handle this study, so it will take time for me to get at least 15 tests. The powerful computer has limited access is why. I urge any participants to get at least 15 data points. So, 15 embarks that have a weapon under them. Please tally up which weapon. Anything that is not a sword, post a screenshot if you can.

From memory, I have cracked three of these in the past.

All swords, but I would have to spend sometime checking my recycle bin if I can find the saves, if I havent cleaned it out yet.

Few things:
1. Check immediately if you've embarked on a place with a circus tent by checking your fortress wealth as soon as you embark. Saves time.
2. That being said, technically, the sword is a building that needs to be deconstructed first, so I don't think the sword will come up in the list.
3. I'm pretty sure it's always a sword.
1. 16x16 embark guarantees circus tent
2. If you open the "Link lever to Spear/Spike" dialogue, the weapon will show up.
3. The purpose of this thread is to put that through !!SCIENCE!! My hypothesis is that since there are no special "sword tags" in the weapon raws, the game cannot discriminate when placing weapons in circus tents.

The skill the weapon uses (swordsman) tells the game that it's a sword.
