Gilded Artifact Pick
« on: June 09, 2012, 08:29:15 am »

Is there a way to assign one of miners an artifact gold pick, without it being considered part of their 'military' uniform? I know picks hardly matter material wise, but being a thriving dwarven community, I consider it a gift to bestow on my finest miner for great deeds, but I have no idea how.

Try turning off all of the other miner's labors, then forbid all of the picks in the fortress. Then, activate the dwarfs who is to receive the artifact pick, and unforbid only that one. That should do it.

...but be careful not to ever turn off the mining labor or he will set it down again.

Lol, I just meant there isn't a way to assign ownership.  :)

Use it to breach all kind of fun and potentially spoilery places!

I know you said you didn't want him to be part of your military, but you could make him a squad of one, give him a custom uniform that only includes that pick, and then set your alerts so that he's never activated. Yes, he'd technically be in the military, but he'd effectively be a civilian.

That would make him carry it if the setting is Inactive: uniformed, but only if he isn't mining. Unless the old "conflicting invisible work uniform" bug with miners, woodcutters and hunters was corrected.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that bug. Sorry, my idea won't work. My bad.
